Welcome to Room 6's Wiki! Here you will find lots of information about what we are doing this year and examples of our fantastic work. This is also a good place to check out different games to help you improve your numeracy and literacy skills.
Our inquiry this year is all about citizenship. What is a citizen? What do good citizens do? In Room 6 we are going to look at our inquiry in relation to the Rugby World Cup. We are going to adopt a country, do some research about that country and think about what we can do to make people from another country feel welcome in New Zealand.
At the moment we are looking at creating a brochure or a welcome pack for visitors to Auckland as we found that most tourists arrive in Auckland, jump in their rental car and head straight out town! We thought that perhaps this was because people either didn't feel welcome in Auckland, or they didn't know enough about what Auckland has to offer. That's where we come into it!
Our goal is to make people feel welcome in Auckland, and make sure they know about all the amazing things that Auckland has to offer!
Do you know someone who can speak another language? Maybe you can help us? We are looking for people who speak another language so that when we create our brochure or welcome pack, we can translate it into other languages for our visitors.
We are excited that New Zealand is the host of this years Rugby World Cup! We have all got our RWC packs with lots of exciting goodies inside and we are working through the awesome workbooks that we received from the RWC people. We have really got on board with the adopt-a-country initiative and are looking forward to learning more about Scotland! There are heaps of great activities to do and games to play on the ruggerland website.
Remember to complete the activities each week to get the stamps you need for the New Zealand-A-Thon! There are questions to be answered each week about New Zealand - this week is Our Place. See if you can answer all 10 questions to earn one stamp per correct answer. Remember these is also the 'Where in New Zealand is George' activity, as well as additional research activities you can do in the library with Mrs Gardner and orienteering with Miss Morrish.
Week two is all about Citizenship so make sure you have those research skills finely tuned in preparation for week two!
Go to the New Zealand-A-Thon page on our wiki to find the powerpoint presentations with all the questions to be answered. Remember don't jump ahead and do them all at once - make sure you do week 1 this week (29 Aug - 2 Sept), week 2 next week (5 - 9 Sept) and week three the week after (12 - 16 Sept). Happy Researching!!!
